Cold War had been going on since the 1940's so who drank the last glass of milk did "not drink the whole bottle;" II. Paul Volcker had the courage and the strength to play big time hardball in financial markets that put monster pressure on Russia; III. Russia invaded afghan in 1979 that killed them financially in conjunction with Volcker --they left in shame in 1988, thus that war mirrored Reagan's time as pres---(oh, who has invaded afghan lately? and Iraq?)---Well hell lopez, what about Clinton as President? Oh, that one is easy as Clinton was maybe the luckiest pres of all time in that : I. Clinton is very charismatic and GHW Bush was a lot less so, and that made winning easier, plus Ross Perot got 19% of votes. II. The cold war ended, thus freeing up enormous assets from all sources and dropping a monster that had plagued all presidents for over 40 years. III. and another big time stroke of luck was that the Technological Revolution was coming roaring onto Main Street providing awesome economic strength-----actually, during either of those periods, many people, including Lopez , would have been good presidents----Sorry folks, but having the ability or whatever it takes, to win an election, does not make a good pres or congress-person for that matter---we sadly are reminded of this fact almost every damned day--lopez views history
