Ms Marooon--the idea came from your favorite government, the USA--dubya says all is great and budget is great and will be balanced but he does not count costs for iraq/afghan, etc. or FICA or Medicare---so you to can increase your net worth by simply not counting DEBT ---walaaaahhhhhh--and then you can borrow more---

Hombre'--on debt, the pols do not talk of debt but just spend to make you happy so you will vote for them and it is YOU who should worry about debt, but you do not as you feel entitled---part two is easy:big al greenspan believed that perception was more important than truth and perception could become truth and thus be controlled so he modeled economic stats to fit the views that he and the pols wanted---thus truth got trampled but now the perceptions are being recognized as horseshit and reality is setting in and a gigantic hangover is ahead of USA for years of living on borrowed money and convenient lies....

Listening to cnbs and the dubya boyz and the wall street boyz, well hell, all we hear is that we have record home ownership and stock ownership and bond ownership and such and such a company has gillions and zillions in assets and business and USA sells all over the world and is the biggest and all of our companies are the biggest and on and on and on.......BUT YOU NEVER HEAR THE WORD DEBT---
